The Pelicans and big man Christian Koloko have agreed to a one-year deal, Michael Scotto of Hoops Hype tweets.

Terms weren’t revealed but it’s almost certainly a training camp deal, as Koloko will compete for the last spot on the standard roster. The Pelicans already have 14 guaranteed contracts and recently signed Kobe Bufkin to a non-guaranteed training camp deal.

Koloko opened last season on a two-way contract with the Lakers, but was cut by Los Angeles near the end of November. Koloko spent about a week with the G League’s Austin Spurs in mid-December and then signed a 10-day hardship contract with the Grizzlies. Memphis brought him back for a second 10-day deal, but opted not to sign him for the remainder of the season when that contract expired a few days ago.

He joined the Hawks on a two-way deal in mid-January. He played 14 games for Atlanta, averaging 3.1 points and 2.7 rebounds in 11.1 minutes. Overall, he saw action in 27 games last season, averaging 2.7 points and 3.0 rebounds in 13.2 minutes.

Koloko was selected No. 33 overall in the 2022 draft after three college seasons with Arizona. He showed some promise as a rookie with Toronto in 2022/23, but was forced to miss the entire ’23/24 season due to a blood clot issue.

Koloko has likely agreed to an Exhibit 9 contract, since he is no longer eligible for a two-way contract. Despite only technically playing in three separate NBA seasons, he has accumulated four years of service.
