While Jalen Duren continues to progress through his rehab for a hamstring strain and he has been cleared to begin on-court activities, he’ll be out at least two more weeks, which is the next time he’ll be reevaluated, the Pistons announced today (Twitter link).
The Pistons play seven times over the next couple weeks before heading to Atlanta for a November 22 contest against the Hawks. The next update on Duren could come before that game.
Duren has been out since Oct. 23, when he strained his right hamstring in the second quarter of a win at Miami.
In addition to being selected to his first All-Star game last season, Duren also earned a third-team All-NBA spot after averaging 19.5 points, 10.5 rebounds and 2.0 assists in 70 regular season appearances (28.2 minutes per game).
The 22-year-old big man, who re-signed with the Pistons on a five-year, $200MM deal as a restricted free agent after what was widely described as a contentious negotiation, missed part of training camp and a few preseason games as those talks dragged on until the start of October.
Duren posted 22 points and nine rebounds in 28 minutes during Detroit’s comeback win over Boston in the team’s season opener and had four points, six rebounds and three assists in 10 minutes in the Oct. 23 contest prior to suffering the hamstring injury.
Paul Reed has been the Pistons’ starting center with Duren sidelined and that figures to continue until his teammate is ready to return. Head coach J.B. Bickerstaff has largely opted against using a traditional five as Reed’s backup, instead playing smaller lineups.
The Pistons have gone 4-2 without Duren so far and are 6-2 overall. They host the 8-2 Lakers on Sunday evening.
