Just three days after being waived by the Nuggets, veteran guard Lonnie Walker IV has lined up a new opportunity overseas, having signed a contract with Besiktas, according to announcements from the Turkish team and his agent Misko Raznatovic (Twitter links).
The 18th overall pick in the 2018 draft, Walker is a seven-year NBA veteran who has made 342 regular season appearances for four teams, but he’s no stranger to European basketball either. The 27-year-old played in Lithuania for Zalgiris Kaunas for most of the 2024/25 season, then spent the ’25/26 campaign with Maccabi Tel Aviv in Israel.
In 28 EuroLeague outings last season for Maccabi Tel Aviv, Walker averaged 15.2 points, 2.5 rebounds, and 2.3 assists in 22.8 minutes per night, with a .394/.351/.758 shooting line.
Walker was in camp with Denver this fall on a non-guaranteed contract, but he was always considered a long shot to make the regular season roster due to the Nuggets’ cap situation. Carrying a 15th man on a minimum-salary contract would increase the club’s projected tax bill by roughly $16.5MM.
The same day that he was cut by the Nuggets, word broke that Walker had signed with Raznatovic’s agency, BeoBasket, which represents many players in Europe. That was a strong indication that the 6’4″ guard intended to head back overseas for the 2026/27 season, and subsequent reporting indicated he was drawing interest from at least three EuroLeague teams, including Besiktas.
Besiktas is off to a 1-2 start in Turkey’s Basketbol Super Ligi and has a 2-3 record in the EuroLeague, so Walker will be tasked with helping the team try to move up the standings in both competitions. He’s joining a roster that features several other former NBA players, including Jaylen Nowell, Furkan Korkmaz, Ante Zizic, Devon Dotson, and Wenyen Gabriel.
