Canada remains perfect in FIBA World Cup qualifying.

The Canadian men improved to 8-0 in the tournament with a 97-92 win over Argentina on Monday night in Quebec City.

The win all but guarantees Canada a spot in next year’s tournament in Qatar, with other results still to come Monday night. Canada has four more qualifying games to play and the top three teams in each group qualify.

The Canadians were led offensively by a pair of Atlanta Hawks stars in Nickeil Alexander-Walker (26 points) and Lu Dort (25 points). Mfiondu Kabengele, a Burlington native who plays pro basketball in Dubai, had 14 points and 11 rebounds. Marcus Carr of Toronto (14 points) and Kelly Olynyk of the San Antonio Spurs (11 points) also had double-digit totals for Canada.

Canada resumes qualifying games in November when they travel to Uruguay and Argentina for games.
