The Chicago Bears could have starting quarterback Caleb Williams back for a pivotal Week 6 meeting with the Atlanta Falcons.
Williams, who has not played since injuring a hamstring late in a Week 2 loss against the Minnesota Vikings, is “inching” closer to a return, according to a report from the NFL Network. The quarterback avoided a more serious injury than initially believed, and was diagnosed with a Grade 2 hamstring strain.

The starting quarterback has missed Chicago’s last three games, with Case Keenum and Tyson Bagent starting in his place. Keenum led the Bears to a Week 3 win over the Philadelphia Eagles while Bagent was sidelined due to a concussion, but Bagent returned to guide Chicago to a Week 4 victory over the New York Jets.
Week 5 was a different story, as the Bears were throttled by the Green Bay Packers in an NFC North clash. Bagent got the start, but was pulled in the second half and replaced by the veteran Keenum, in a game Chicago lost 31-7.
While Williams was inactive last Sunday against Green Bay, he did return to practice in the days leading up to the game. Williams also went through a pre-game workout, prior to the inactive designation:
Speaking with Pat McAfee on Tuesday, NFL insider Ian Rapoport noted that it looks “pretty good” for Williams to be back this weekend against Atlanta:
And for those who believe in reading the social media tea leaves, Williams did update his profile on Instagram, adding the header caption “I’m Inevitable:”
That could be the clearest sign yet he will be back for the Falcons game on Sunday.
