The centre is out at least two weeks after tweaking his hamstring, head coach Tiago Splitter told reporters on Monday.
The Bulls acquired Claxton in June as part of a three-team trade that also saw the Minnesota Timberwolves send Julius Randle to the Brooklyn Nets, and the Nets moving Claxton to the Windy City.
Claxton, 27, averaged 11.7 points, 6.9 rebounds, 3.7 assists and 1.1 blocks across 69 games last season. In 2022-23, Claxton finished ninth in Defensive Player of the Year voting.
The two-week timeline could still set up Claxton to play the Bulls’ season opener Oct. 21 against the Toronto Raptors.
It isn’t apparent how the injury occurred.
