Actor Swara Bhasker has recalled her reaction to the Supreme Court’s 2019 Ayodhya verdict, revealing that she reached out to several Muslim friends, including Bollywood stars Shah Rukh Khan, Salman Khan and Aamir Khan, after the judgment.

Speaking on The Midnight Hour podcast, Swara said she was deeply upset when the verdict was announced and felt that the decision was unfair.

Recalling her reaction, the actor said she messaged Muslim people in her phonebook because she wanted to express her feelings and let them know that she did not agree with the verdict.

Swara said she told them, as a Hindu, that she was “really sorry” and “ashamed” and wanted to reach out to the Muslim friends she knew. She also recalled that some of the people she messaged told her that she did not need to apologise.

The Supreme Court had delivered its unanimous verdict in the Ayodhya title dispute on November 9, 2019. The five-judge Constitution Bench directed that the disputed site be handed over for the construction of a Ram temple and ordered the government to allot five acres of alternative land to the Sunni Central Waqf Board for a mosque.

Swara’s remarks from the podcast have resurfaced online and sparked reactions on social media, with several users criticising her response to the verdict.

During the same conversation, Swara also spoke about her relationship with husband Fahad Ahmad and revealed that former JNU student leader Umar Khalid played a role in bringing the two together.
