The Commanders are activating defensive tackle Johnny Newton from injured reserve, Ian Rapoport of NFL Media reports.

Newton has spent the season on IR after tearing a pectoral muscle in the preseason.

He returned to practice Oct. 28, opening his 21-day window.

Newton was limited in the Week 7 practices. He returned to full participation this week and had a questionable designation.

He missed only one game over his first two seasons and totaled 82 tackles, seven sacks, two forced fumbles and two passes defensed.
