The Sixers have exercised their third-year option on VJ Edgecombe, the team announced in a press release.
The move was a mere formality. Edgecombe was already slated to earn $11,663,880 this season and Philadelphia has now locked in his $12,219,840 salary for 2027/28.
Edgecombe was selected third overall in last year’s draft and is coming off an excellent rookie season in which he averaged 16.0 points, 5.6 rebounds, 4.2 assists and 1.4 steals in 35.0 minutes per game as a full-time starter. He appeared in 75 regular season contests for Philadelphia and posted a shooting line of .438/.352/.818.
A 6’4″ guard from the Bahamas, Edgecombe finished third in Rookie of the Year voting last season, behind Cooper Flagg and Kon Knueppel, and was unanimously selected to the All-Rookie first team.
Philadelphia has until next fall to decide whether to pick up its fourth-year option on Edgecombe’s rookie scale contract. That option for 2028/29 comes in at $15,445,878.
