The San Francisco 49ers elected to not play any starters in their first preseason matchup against the Tennessee Titans, but that could change in Week 2.
Niners head coach Kyle Shanahan said he believed his first stringers looked good in a Wednesday joint practice with Tennessee, so he decided to keep them out and see what else the team is working with.

“If we didn’t feel we got that work in, probably would have changed my mind. But was real happy with the work that we got that day,” Shanahan said to reporters following the 49ers’ Week 1 preseason loss to the Titans on Aug. 13. “The vets, the guys who didn’t dress today, got a workout in yesterday. They got to work out with the coaches today, just routes on air and things like that. So they’ve gotten some work in, but it’ll be good to have them fresh for Saturday, too.”
