Rival teams interested in potentially acquiring Giannis Antetokounmpo from the Bucks say general manager Jon Horst has set an “unrealistic” asking price for the two-time MVP, reports Jake Fischer of The Stein Line (Substack link).
As to what constitutes “unrealistic,” those opposing teams tell Fischer that Milwaukee has been seeking a return of assets that would leave any club that acquires Antetokounmpo bereft of the talent necessary to compete for championships.
To illustrate what he’s heard “several times” in the last week, Fischer uses the Timberwolves as an example. Minnesota pursued Antetokounmpo ahead of the February deadline and recently inquired about him again, but the Bucks wanted even more from the Wolves than they did a few months ago, per Fischer.
At the same time, the Bucks have found the market for Antetokounmpo less robust than anticipated, Fischer writes, as the Rockets, Thunder, Spurs and Knicks have not pursued the 10-time All-Star forward.
The Celtics have been continually linked to Antetokounmpo and realize they’ll have to trade Jaylen Brown to acquire him, according to Fischer, but they’re believed to be hesitant to include additional assets beyond the 29-year-old wing, who made the All-NBA Second Team in 2025/26.
The perception around the league, Fischer continues, is that the Bucks are operating as though they have a passable trade offer from the Heat and are attempting to see if they can improve upon it before the first round of the draft starts on Tuesday, assuming they still view that as a deadline.
Miami’s offer is built around Tyler Herro, Kel’el Ware, Jaime Jaquez Jr. and the 13th overall pick, Fischer adds, with more draft picks and/or players expected to be included as well.
