The Thunder have decided not to sign the free-agent forward a day after reportedly agreeing to a contract with him, ESPN’s Shams Charania reported on Saturday.
Agbaji was set to take the Thunder’s final roster spot, but after the Thunder found out Chet Holmgren will miss eight to 10 weeks, they are now taking a step back to re-evaluate the open spot, per Charania.
OKC is facing an injury crisis with Jalen Williams and Cason Wallace likely out for the season, Holmgren out for over two months and Alex Caruso sidelined for a few weeks.
Agbaji, 26, played 40 games for the Toronto Raptors last season before being dealt alongside a second-round pick to the Brooklyn Nets in February, where he played 20 more games.
Across those 62 contests, the 2022 first-round pick averaged 5.1 points and 2.3 rebounds per game while shooting 26.6 per cent from three-point range — a steep drop from the prior season when he connected on 39.9 per cent of three-point attempts over 64 games for the Raptors.
Agbaji spent training camp with the New York Knicks but did not make the cut for the opening-day roster.
Oklahoma City holds a 4-1 record in the early going despite the injuries.
