Fresh off their first series win in nearly two decades, the Detroit Pistons are keeping their head coach around for the long haul.
The Pistons announced Monday that they’ve signed coach J.B. Bickerstaff to an extension.
Terms of the deal were not announced.
Bickerstaff, 47, is in his second year coaching the upstart Pistons, turning them from a 14-win team in the 2023-24 season to a 60-win side this past year. In all, he has a 104-60 record with the Pistons.
He helped the side to its first No. 1 seed in the Eastern Conference since the 2006-07 season, as well as its first series win since 2008, when they last made the Eastern Conference Finals.
The Pistons narrowly beat the Orlando Magic in the first round, rallying from a 3-1 series deficit. They’re now set to take on the Cleveland Cavaliers — Bickerstaff’s previous team — in Round 2.
On the flipside, the Magic fired head coach Jamahl Mosley after the series loss.
