HAZARD, Ky. (WYMT) -The Black Gold Plaza Shopping Center in Hazard has announced opening dates for all its new stores.
T.J. Maxx is set to open May 17. Five Below will follow on May 22, with Hobby Lobby opening June 8 and Dollar Tree opening June 18.
The shopping center is expected to bring between 150 and 175 new jobs to Hazard.
Officials said the stores will help bring more traffic to the area.
“And we’re so excited to have this new retail coming here. It’s going to be a big hit for our economy. It’s going to be a big hit for other businesses here as well. We’ll create a lot of new traffic and a lot of new customers that a lot of our local businesses and stuff will have an opportunity to get a new customer base,” said Scott Alexander, Perry County Judge-Executive.
The city of Hazard also has many events downtown planned for this summer, including the Farmers Market and Cruisin on Main.
