Actor Dhanush has postponed the release of his upcoming Tamil film ‘OM: Chapter One – Udhiram: The Blood Wood’, which was earlier scheduled to hit theatres on October 16, 2026. The decision comes to avoid a clash with Rajinikanth’s ‘Jailer 2’, which is scheduled to release a day earlier, on October 15.

Dhanush announced the postponement on social media, saying that moving a film’s release comes with its own challenges. However, he said the team decided to postpone ‘OM’ out of respect for Rajinikanth.

“Out of immense respect for him, we have decided to postpone the release of our film, OM, to a later date,” Dhanush said in his statement.

‘OM’ will also skip Diwali release

Dhanush also confirmed that ‘OM’ will not be released during the Diwali window this year. Suriya’s upcoming film ‘Scene’ has already been announced for a Diwali release, with the film scheduled to arrive in theatres on November 6.

Explaining the decision, Dhanush said Suriya’s film had been announced for the date first. He added that the makers believe big films should have “mutual understanding” and respect each other’s release decisions while keeping the wider interests of the film industry in mind.

The makers have not yet announced a new release date for ‘OM’. Dhanush concluded his announcement by saying that the new date will be revealed soon.

Dhanush, Mammootty headline ‘OM’

Directed by Rajkumar Periasamy, ‘OM’ stars Dhanush alongside Malayalam superstar Mammootty. The film also features Sai Pallavi, Sreeleela and Naseeruddin Shah in key roles.

The postponement comes shortly after Dhanush received National Award recognition, with the actor being honoured for Captain Miller, while Raayan, which he directed, was recognised as the Best Tamil Film.

With ‘Jailer 2’ and ‘Scene’ occupying the October and Diwali release windows, Dhanush’s ‘OM’ will now arrive at a later date, which is yet to be announced.
