Nikhil’s take: Center is no doubt a major concern for the Ravens right now, but Vega Ioane is not exactly a stranger to the position. He only played 24 snaps there in his college career, but he trains at all three interior offensive line positions during the offseason, according to his private coach, Duke Manyweather.
The bigger concern, in my eyes, is Andrew Vorhees stepping in at right guard. His struggles last year led the Ravens to abandon their annual guard competition in favor of clear starters in Ioane and John Simpson. Maybe Vorhees could play better after some development under new OL coach Dwayne Ledford, but if we’re being honest, his early returns have been underwhelming relative to the buzz surrounding his original hire.
I’m still confident in the Ravens’ overall direction. Sunday’s win in Brazil was a departure from previous collapses, and it’s a little early to give up on a talented, well-coached defense. If Baltimore cannot get more convincing wins in two of their next games against the Titans, Browns, and Falcons, though, I’ll be worried. Until then: in Lamar Jackson we trust.
