UPDATE: Murray has officially been downgraded to OUT for the remainder of today’s game with a concussion.

The 2026 season opener didn’t get off to a great start for the Minnesota Vikings, and it didn’t get much better midway through the first quarter with a very scary moment involving the Vikings’ starting quarterback.

Midway through the first quarter, Kyler Murray was attempting to scramble for a first down, and when he slid to the turf he took a vicious shot to the head from Green Bay Packers defensive lineman Javon Bullard. Bullard was called for an unsportsmanlike conduct penalty, but Murray was taken off the field and straight to the locker room for an evaluation for a head injury.

Murray, who was signed to a 1-year deal this offseason as a free agent, was named as the team’s starter early in training camp, got off to a rough start to the game as his first pass as a Viking was intercepted by Keisean Nixon. After the injury, he was replaced by Carson Wentz, who was listed as the team’s backup. J.J. McCarthy is the team’s emergency quarterback, but he can’t enter today’s game unless Wentz also gets injured.

Once again, Kyler Murray took a shot to the head midway through the first quarter of today’s regular season opener against the Green Bay Packers and is being evaluated for a head injury. When we have further word on any sort of injury he may have suffered, we will bring it to you here.
