Multiple reports on Monday said that Falcons quarterback Michael Penix avoided a serious injury to his ribs when he was hurt late in Sunday night’s loss to the Ravens, but head coach Kevin Stefanski isn’t ready to make any comments about his availability for Week 6.
Penix was hurt on a sack on the Falcons’ final possession of regulation and returned to the game after missing one play, but Tua Tagovailoa took over at quarterback after the Ravens opened overtime with a long touchdown drive. Penix said after the game that he thought he would have been able to stay in the game if the Falcons had gotten the ball first.

On Monday, Stefanski said he wanted to give Penix’s body time to respond to the injury before making any determinations about the Falcons’ upcoming game against the Bears.
“I can answer that better Wednesday,” Stefanski said. “With any type of injury, I always want to see how the guys respond over a couple of days before I can give you a good answer there.”
Tagovailoa completed his first two passes in his first playing time of the 2026 season, but was intercepted by Ravens safety Kyle Hamilton to end the game. Penix was 19-of-32 for 240 yards and a touchdown.
