International Notes: Hayes, Boston, Shulga, Howard, Parker
Maccabi Tel Aviv has reached out to former lottery pick Killian Hayes about the possibility of signing a contract with the EuroLeague club, according to Arale Weisberg of the Israeli outlet Hadisco.
Hayes, a six-year NBA veteran who finished last season with the Kings, had his 2026/27 option declined by Sacramento in June, making him an unrestricted free agent.
The French guard appeared in 23 games with the Kings in 2025/26, averaging 5.5 points, 3.5 assists, 2.3 rebounds and 0.9 steals in 17.7 minutes per contest. Hayes struggled with offensive efficiency — an issue throughout his career — posting a shooting line of .304/.270/.929.
Maccabi Tel Aviv is looking for an injury replacement at guard with Gabriel Lundberg out several weeks due to a quad injury, Weisberg writes.
Here are a few more notes from overseas:
- Former NBA guard Brandon Boston Jr. became a free agent earlier this month after he was waived by Chicago. The 24-year-old wing participated in training camp and the preseason with the Bulls. Boston, who spent last season in with Fenerbahce, is expected to return to Turkey with Trabzonspor, sources tell Donatas Urbonas of BasketNews.com. Urbonas hears Boston drew interest from multiple EuroLeague teams early in the offseason but prioritized a possible NBA return with Chicago. Now, the expectation is that he’ll head back to Europe with Trabzonspor, which competes in Turkey’s top domestic league as well as the Basketball Champions League (BCL).
- Former Celtics guard Max Shulga signed with Real Madrid in August, but he may end up playing in Lithuania this fall. The Spanish club, which hasn’t had a spot for Shulga in its rotation to this point, is considering loaning him out to another European team, according to a report from Javier Maestro of Encestando (hat tip to Sportando). BC Rytas is said to eyeing Shulga, writes Johnny Askounis of Eurohoops, citing reporting from the Lithuanian outlet Krepsinis.net. The 57th overall pick in the 2025 NBA draft out of VCU, Shulga spent most of his rookie year on a two-way contract before being promoted to Boston’s standard roster in March. He appeared in 11 regular season games and two playoff contests for the Celtics.
- After announcing his retirement in March, former NBA star center Dwight Howard made a brief comeback in the country of Georgia for Black Fortress Tbilisi before officially calling it a career again last week. Askounis has the story at Eurohoops.
- The Serbian club KK Partizan announced (via Twitter) that it has mutually agreed to part ways with former NBA forward Jabari Parker, the No. 2 overall pick in the 2014 draft. Parker signed a two-year contract with the Belgrade-based team during the 2025 offseason, but he struggled to make an impact for Partizan, averaging 7.7 points per game on 39.1% shooting in 15 EuroLeague outings, and finished last season on loan to Joventut in Spain.
