The Hornets have signed Kyle Mangas and waived Trey Townsend, according to the team (Twitter links).

Charlotte made a similar move on Tuesday when it signed Townsend and waived Josiah Allick. The Hornets are once again using the lone open spot on their 21-man offseason roster to complete their latest transaction.

It appears the team will continue to use that spot to rotate players on and off the roster ahead of training camp, either to secure their G League rights or to ensure that they’ll be in line for Exhibit 10 bonuses if they’re cut and then spend at least 60 days with the Greensboro Swarm in the G League — or both.

Mangas had a brief stint on the Spurs’ roster as a two-way player last season but has never appeared in an NBA game. He played 35 games for the Austin Spurs in the G League last season, posting averages of 16.7 points, 4.2 rebounds and 2.2 assists in 31.3 minutes per game. He also played six games for France’s Chorale Roanne Basket. Mangas was on the Celtics’ Summer League roster this July.

Mangas, who went undrafted out of Indiana Wesleyan in 2021, has signed non-guaranteed Exhibit 10 contracts prior to each of the last three seasons. Since going pro, the 6’4″ guard has also played in the Czech Republic, Lithuania and Canada.

Townsend will now report to the Greensboro Swarm after clearing waivers in order to earn a bonus worth up to $91K under the terms of his Exhibit 10 deal.
