After being placed on injured reserve following a foot injury he suffered against the Arizona Cardinals in Week 4, Giants wide receiver and kick/punt returner Braxton Berrios will undergo surgery that will end his 2026-27 season.
Berrios took to social media to share the news, which arrived on his 31st birthday. In a lengthy post, he wrote that his season is over.

“Two of my last three seasons ended this way and I’d be lying if I said I wasn’t miserable right now,” Berrios wrote. “I felt I belonged here this year and everything finally fell in place, now it feels like everything I’ve poured into the last nine months is gone in the blink of an eye.”
Berrios signed a one-year deal with New York in June to replace Gunner Olszewski, who tore his ACL in OTAs this summer. But over the last three seasons, Berrios has only played in a total of 14 games while bouncing around between the Miami Dolphins, Houston Texans and now the Giants.
Prior to the injuries, Berrios had carved out a nice resume for himself on special teams as well as a receiver, catching 134 receptions for 1,323 yards in 81 games and getting solid results as a kick/punt returner. He was even named First-Team All-Pro in 2021 with the Jets while averaging 30.4 yards per kick return with a long of 102 yards, which went for a touchdown.
This season, Berrios averaged 27.6 yards per kick return.

With Berrios out, wideout Charlie Jones will likely take over the returning duties. Jones, who was signed to the 53-man roster from the practice squad on Sept. 29, replaced Berrios in the second half of Sunday’s game and recorded two punt returns for 29 yards and three kickoff returns for 69 yards.
