A one-time NBA head coach is expected to join Toronto Raptors head coach Darko Rajakovic‘s staff.
Former Houston Rockets head man Stephen Silas is expected to work as an assistant in Toronto next season, Sportsnet’s Michael Grange reported Tuesday.
The son of long-time NBA head coach Paul Silas, Stephen Silas coached the Rockets for three seasons, taking over for the 2020-21 season — during which both Russell Westbrook and James Harden were moved, sending Houston into a teardown. That season, and the subsequent two, saw the Rockets embark on a full-scale rebuild, with the team going 59-177 over Silas’ three seasons at the helm.
After he was fired by Houston, Silas had a brief stint as the lead assistant on Monty Williams’ Detroit Pistons staff. After Williams’ doomed one-and-done campaign in Detroit, Silas went on to coach the U.S. in FIBA AmeriCup qualifiers and oversaw a 4-0 stretch.
The Raptors have vacancies on their bench, with neither Mike Batiste nor James Wade expected to return, according to Grange.
