MOUNTAIN PARK, Okla. (KSWO) — The former mayor of Mountain Park is being charged with embezzlement after allegedly gambling with city funds.
Adam Ney, 45, is charged with one felony count of embezzlement.
According to court documents, an audit of the city in 2024, while Ney was mayor, revealed two ATM cash withdrawals with city’s bank card. After this, the town clerk uncovered 10 more, bringing the total to 12.
The total amount shown was $5,438.
In addition, banking information also allegedly showed four cash deposits from Ney totaling $4,830.
Upon further investigation, documents say the deposits and 10 of the withdrawals came from the Apache Casino Hotel in Lawton. Two additional deposits came from an ATM across the street from the casino.
An agent with the Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation interviewed Ney regarding the transactions. Ney allegedly admitted to the withdrawals and using them to gamble at the Apache Casino Hotel. He said he thought he had paid it all back.
Ney allegedly attributed his decision to resign as mayor to the cash withdrawals.
If convicted, Ney faces up to eight years in prison.
