Kings center Dylan Cardwell is suffering from a left calf strain and he’ll be sidelined at least two weeks, beat writer Jason Anderson tweets.
The diagnosis was announced by the team after Cardwell underwent an MRI. He’ll miss at least the start of the regular season.
That leaves Sacramento thin in the middle with its Oct. 21 opener against the Clippers looming. Another big man, Maxime Raynaud, is also expected to miss at least the next two weeks with a right patellar subluxation.
The other options behind starter Domantas Sabonis include Precious Achiuwa, who is mainly a power forward, and two-way player Jonathan Mogbo.
Cardwell appeared in 44 games last season, his rookie campaign. The former Auburn standout averaged 5.4 points, 7.5 rebounds and 1.5 blocks in 20.6 minutes per contest. He missed Saturday’s preseason game against the Warriors due to the calf injury.
