The Bulls will acquire Buddy Hield and cash from the Hornets in exchange for Rob Dillingham, sources tell ESPN’s Shams Charania (Twitter link).

It’s the second trade of the week for Hield, who was sent from Atlanta to Charlotte on Tuesday. He’s eligible to be moved again because his salary isn’t being aggregated with another player, notes Bobby Marks of ESPN (Twitter link).

Chicago takes on a little more salary with Hield, who will make $9.7MM this season and holds a $10.1MM player option for 2027/28. Dillingham, who’s still on his rookie contract, is owed $6.9MM this season and has an $8.8MM team option for the following year that has to be exercised by November 2. The money the Bulls will receive in the trade will help make up the difference in salaries, Marks adds.

The Hornets, who still have 17 fully guaranteed contracts, are gradually cutting payroll to compensate for the dead money they’ll be facing if they have to waive two players to reach the 15-man roster limit, observes Yossi Gozlan of The Third Apron (Twitter link). Gozlan expects Charlotte to absorb Dillingham’s contract into its Tyus Jones trade exception and create a new $9.7MM TPE for Hield.
