Timberwolves Announce Updates To Basketball Staff

In addition to confirming the hiring of Daniel Brady as an assistant coach and the promotion of Will Barton to a player development associate after he spent last season as an assistant coach with the Iowa Wolves, the Timberwolves recently announced several other updates to their coaching and basketball operations staffs.

Here are some of the noteworthy updates within the team’s press release:

Tim Lewis will return to Minnesota as an assistant coach after spending the last three seasons as head coach of the ENEOS Sunflowers in Japan’s WJBL League. Lewis holds extensive experience in the United Kingdom and Japan and previously spent three years in various roles with the Timberwolves and Iowa Wolves.
Kelly McCarty has been promoted to player development coordinator after spending 2025/26 as a player development associate. McCarty, who played 15 years professionally, including part of one season with the Nuggets, was an assistant coach with Iowa from 2023-25.
Gary McGhee, another former longtime professional player, essentially takes McCarty’s previous role as a player development associate. McGhee started his coaching career last season as a team assistant with the Pacers.
Last season’s video associate, Josh Felton, has been promoted to assistant video coordinator. He previously spent time with the Iowa Wolves and Westchester Knicks.
Cole Fisher, who’s entering his ninth year with the franchise, has been promoted to director of basketball analytics. Fischer, who started his career as a basketball operations intern with Toronto in 2017, was Minnesota’s manager of basketball analytics each of the past three seasons.
Former NBA player Alonzo Gee, who has had various roles in the front office since he joined the basketball operations department in 2022, has been promoted to manager of pro scouting/Iowa Wolves assistant general manager.
Former Villanova standout Phil Booth is the new scouting coordinator after spending last season with the Timberwolves as a basketball operations associate. He played six years professionally prior to joining Minnesota’s front office.
