The Carolina Panthers fired defensive coordinator Ejiro Evero on Friday following a loss to the Packers on Thursday. Evero previously spent five seasons on Sean McVay’s staff coaching defensive backs, from 2017 to 2021, prior to being hired as the Broncos defensive coordinator in 2022.
Would now be the right time to bring Evero back to the L.A. Rams?
Evero’s Denver defense ranked seventh in yards allowed in 2022, but Nathaniel Hackett’s staff was quickly disassembled after a disastrous season with Russell Wilson.

The Panthers next hired him to the same job and Carolina ranked fourth in yards allowed, but 29th in points allowed. In 2024, the Panthers were dead last in points and yards allowed, but the team showed patience with new head coach Dave Canales and his staff. Carolina improved the next season as they were middle of the pack defensively in 2025 and made the playoffs.
However, the Panthers have fallen to 3-4 and they gave up 59 points to the Bears in Week 1, a sting that hasn’t gone away for Evero.
But would he be welcomed back on a Rams defensive staff that could use some consultation in the secondary? Trent McDuffie could return to the field this weekend against the L.A. Chargers and the Rams have made a big investment there recently with McDuffie, Jaylen Watson, and Quentin Lake.
Some fans think Chris Shula needs the help. If not more than just help.
