Sixers big man Ariel Hukporti has been diagnosed with a ruptured right Achilles tendon, reports Shams Charania of ESPN (Twitter link). According to Charania, the injury will sideline Hukporti for the entire 2026/27 season.
The team, confirming that Hukporti suffered a torn Achilles during Monday’s preseason opener, has announced that he’ll undergo surgery later today, tweets ESPN’s Dave McMenamin.
The injury less than five minutes into Monday’s game. As Hukporti guarded former Knicks teammate Karl-Anthony Towns and defended against an interior pass, he fell to the floor and immediately grabbed the back of his lower right leg (video link via NBA.com). The 24-year-old exited the game, with head coach Nick Nurse telling reporters after the victory that he would undergo imaging on his right Achilles.
