The Warriors have discussed a deal for Pelicans forward Trey Murphy III involving the 11th pick in tonight’s draft, sources tell Michael Scotto of HoopsHype. New Orleans wants to trade into the lottery in hopes of landing a specific player, according to Scotto, who mentions Tennessee forward Nate Ament as a possible candidate.
Golden State is among numerous suitors for Murphy, so the overall price figures to be high. Sources tell Scotto that they were one of at least eight teams that made calls to inquire about a Murphy trade before the February deadline.
Scotto also hears that the Warriors have discussed a deal with the Hornets to exchange the No. 11 pick for the 14th and 18th selections. Charlotte’s interest is contingent on a certain player still being available, Scotto adds, as the team seemingly wants to get ahead of the Thunder at No. 12.
That target is believed to be Morez Johnson, according to Brett Siegel of ClutchPoints (Twitter link), who states that Charlotte and Oklahoma City both have “real interest” in the Michigan forward.
Regarding a potential Murphy deal, Siegel confirms that the Warriors are interested, but they aren’t willing to meet the Pelicans’ high asking price if they feel like they’re overpaying (Twitter link).
In another draft note, Siegel cites an expectation that Michigan forward Yaxel Lendeborg will fall out of the lottery if Golden State doesn’t select him at No. 11 (Twitter link). If that happens, he expects several teams to try to work out a deal with the Bulls for the 15th pick, the Grizzlies at 16 or maybe the Thunder at 17.
