Yash’s much-awaited film Toxic has cleared a key pre-release hurdle after receiving an ‘A’ certificate from the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC), with no cuts ordered for the film. The board has asked the makers to make only two minor modifications ahead of its theatrical release on August 26.
Directed by Geetu Mohandas, Toxic is a dark action drama featuring mature themes. The film has retained its reported runtime of 3 hours and 12 minutes despite its adult certification.
According to the certification details, the CBFC has asked the makers to mute and replace two words or phrases in the Kannada version, with corresponding changes in the English subtitles. Mandatory anti-smoking and anti-drinking warnings will also be added. Beyond these modifications, the board has not ordered any cuts.
The film’s ‘A’ certificate means that Toxic will be restricted to adult audiences. The certification comes ahead of its August 26 theatrical release and has drawn attention given the film’s violent treatment and mature subject matter.
Toxic has also received an adult classification in the UK. The British Board of Film Classification (BBFC) flagged strong bloody violence and sex, while its content ratings also highlighted violence, injury detail, threat, horror, language, drugs, sexual violence, sexual threat and suicide and self-harm.
The CBFC clearance marks an important milestone for the Yash-starrer as the film gears up for its worldwide theatrical release. The film has generated considerable anticipation with Yash returning to the big screen after the success of KGF: Chapter 2.
Toxic is directed by Geetu Mohandas and stars Yash alongside Kiara Advani and other prominent actors. The film is expected to present Yash in a darker and more intense avatar.
With the certification process now complete, the makers are set to focus on the film’s theatrical release and final promotional activities.
