With each passing day, Aaron Donald‘s return to the Los Angeles Rams seems more and more likely. Donald worked out with team equipment on Wednesday, which required the Rams to report his activity to the league office.
Sean McVay and the team have maintained that Donald would not return unless he was confident he could play at the elite level we are accustomed to from him. Donald wouldn’t come back to be a part-time player or live off his reputation. He wants to make a difference on the defensive line next to Myles Garrett.

While Donald’s return would largely be positive news for the Rams organization, it would also in turn be bad news for someone on the back of the roster. LA would need to cut someone from training camp in order to make room for the future hall of famer.
So who becomes the odd man out? Here are some options:
The most logical place to start. It’s purely a numbers game and if Donald is added to the roster, the most likely place to trim would be his same position group.
These are the players on uncertain ground:
One benefit working in Norton’s favor is that he is more of a defensive tackle while the other aforementioned names are more ends. Still, the Rams have plenty of backups at tackle even though Norton did show promise last preseason. Kobie Turner, Poona Ford, Tyler Davis are locks to make the roster. Recent draft choices in Ty Hamilton and Tim Keenan may be competing for a spot.

Murchison is also likely safe for now, though he’s bounced on and off the roster multiple times in recent years. Moi and Zdroik don’t bring much name recognition to the table. That isn’t a positive in training camp.
Matthew Caldwell, QB
LA may need Caldwell just to make it through the three preseason games. We still don’t know how much or if at all we will see each of Stetson Bennett and/or Ty Simpson in the exhibitions.
But the main question is whether the Rams keep two or three quarterbacks. Caldwell has a remote chance to make the team. Why not sever ties now?
