Forward Mouhamadou Gueye technically remains under contract with Charlotte, but it appears his brief stint as a member of the Hornets is coming to an end. The Spanish team Valencia Basket announced today in a press release that it will be adding Gueye to its roster.
Gueye, who went undrafted out of Pitt in 2022, has spent most of his four-year professional career in the G League, playing for the Texas Legends, Raptors 905, Capital City Go-Go, and Windy City Bulls. Last season, the 6’9″ forward averaged 14.9 points, 7.4 rebounds, 1.8 assists, and 1.4 blocks in 29.2 minutes per game over the course of 47 outings for Windy City.
Gueye’s solid play in the G League earned him a two-year contract with the Bulls during the last week of the 2025/26 regular season. The 28-year-old, who previously made 11 appearances for Toronto during the 2023/24 season, logged 45 minutes in Chicago’s final two regular season contests in April, contributing 16 points, six rebounds, and six assists.
The Bulls subsequently picked up Gueye’s non-guaranteed minimum-salary option for 2026/27 in order to include him in a trade. He was originally ticketed for Minnesota as part of a three-team agreement involving the Timberwolves, Nets, and Bulls, but when the deal expanded to include the Hornets, Gueye was ultimately traded to Charlotte.
Reporting at the time of the initial trade agreement indicated that the Wolves were expected to waive Gueye after acquiring him. When the Hornets ended up with him instead, there was a belief that they’d also take that route. They haven’t cut him yet, but they’ll likely do so any day now in order to free him up to finalize his new deal with Valencia Basket.
The Spanish team finished second in the EuroLeague regular season standings in 2025/26 with a 25-13 record and made it to the EuroLeague Final Four before being eliminated by Real Madrid. However, Valencia is undergoing significant roster changes this offseason, with leading scorer Jean Montero (Olympiacos) and NBA first-round pick Sergio de Larrea (Mavericks) among their departures.
