USA Basketball has revealed its 12-man roster for the August qualifying window for the 2027 FIBA World Cup, per a press release.
While there aren’t any marquee names among the group, at least for domestic fans, 10 of the players have appeared in at least one NBA game. Dillon Jones and Tyler Smith finished last season in the league, having played for the Knicks and Mavericks, respectively. Both players were on two-way contracts; Jones’ deal expired at the end of June, while Smith was cut last month.
Here’s Team USA’s full roster for the qualifying games to be played at Chile on Aug. 27 and vs. Colombia on Aug. 31:
Bradshaw, Harris, James and Robinson all competed for the Americans during the July qualifying window, when the U.S. won road games against the Dominican Republic and Mexico. Robinson, a four-year NBA veteran, spent most of last season on a two-way deal with Orlando prior to being released in February.
It’s been several years since he stepped foot on an NBA court, but James may be the most well-known player on the roster for the second consecutive month. The 36-year-old guard was named EuroLeague MVP in 2024 and is the league’s all-time leading scorer.
The U.S. team, which is being coached by longtime former NBA head coach Terry Stotts, who was a top assistant with the Warriors the past couple years, is currently 5-1 heading into the August qualifiers. It’s the fourth of six qualifying windows ahead of next year’s World Cup.
The final World Cup roster is unlikely to feature any of the players in this 12-man group, since the U.S. typically sends a more star-studded squad to the actual event, which will be held in Qatar next summer. However, the qualifying games give some less-heralded players the opportunity to represent their home country and to help Team USA clinch its spot in the World Cup.
