After making an improbable return for Game 1, Anthony Edwards will suit up again on Wednesday.
The superstar guard has been cleared to play in Game 2 of his team’s second-round series against the San Antonio Spurs, Minnesota Timberwolves coach Chris Finch told reporters ahead of the contest.
Depth guard Ayo Dosunmu will also return to give the Timberwolves backcourt a boost.
Edwards played 25 minutes in Game 1 but was listed as questionable afterwards with a left knee bone bruise. “He might be able to play a few more minutes,” said Finch to reporters about Edwards’ outlook for Game 2.
Edwards, who sustained a left knee hyperextension in Game 4 of Minnesota’s first-round win over the Denver Nuggets, had been expected to miss more time after he was absent for the final two games of that series.
However, he sped up his return through multiple treatments, including hyperbaric chamber sessions, according to ESPN’s Shams Charania.
Edwards had 18 points, three rebounds and three assists on 8-of-13 shooting in Game 1, but attempted an uncharacteristically low three triples.
Aside from his five points in 17 minutes of Game 4 before his injury, Edwards was averaging 23 points, eight rebounds, four assists and 1.7 blocks in the first three games of the opening round.
The four-time all-star averaged 28.8 points, five rebounds, 3.7 assists and 1.4 steals in 61 regular-season games.
Dosunmu, 26, has missed Minnesota’s last three playoff games after being scratched ahead of Game 6 against the Nuggets with right calf soreness.
Acquired at the trade deadline for Rob Dillingham, Canadian Leonard Miller, and four second-round picks, Dosunmu scored a career-high 43 points in Game 4 of the first round off the bench.
The Timberwolves are also without starting guard Donte DiVincenzo, who suffered a torn right Achilles tendon in Game 4 against Denver. It stands to reason that Dosunmu could stand in for DiVincenzo in Minnesota’s starting five.
