The Canadian NBA star signed a three-year, $73-million contract extension with the Phoenix Suns, ESPN’s Shams Charania reported on Wednesday.

The contract keeps Brooks with the Suns through the 2029-30 season.

Brooks, of Mississauga, Ont., joined the Suns last year in a trade with the Houston Rockets that sent Kevin Durant the other way.

He excelled in his first season in Phoenix, leading the team to a surprising playoff berth.

Over 56 games, Brooks scored a career-high 20.6 points per contest while dishing 1.8 assists, hauling in 3.6 rebounds and shooting 34.4 per cent from beyond the arc.

Beyond the counting stats, the Canadian also provided his typical menacing defence, helping transform the Suns alongside first-year coach Jordan Ott.

Now, he’s set to be in Phoenix for the foreseeable future after previous stays in Memphis (six seasons) and Houston (two seasons). Brooks was selected by the Rockets in the second round of the 2017 draft, 45th overall, before an immediate trade to the Grizzlies.

He was Team Canada’s co-captain alongside Shai Gilgeous-Alexander at its most recent World Cup qualifier in July.
