In a sentence I’m nearly positive has never been written before: the Green Bay Packers are trying something different with a rotating team sledgehammer. We’ve seen things like AJ Dillon’s positivity rabbit in the Eagles locker room, and Chicago White Sox pitcher Mike Vasil’s magic wand, and now the Packers are getting in on the fun.
When asked about the sledgehammer, LB Barryn Sorrell clarified that it’s passed around week to week when a player has a big hit on special teams. Sorrell is the proud owner of the hammer this week (is that another new sentence?) after his big hit on “some Bear” during Sunday’s rout of Chicago.
Sorrell explained that, yes, it’s just a hammer, but it brings a “competitive nature to the locker room”, and you know what? WHATEVER WORKS. The winner of the hammer will have his number engraved into the handle each week. No word on who gets the hammer at the end of the year, but I have to assume they’ll all be fighting over who gets to hold the Lombardi Trophy at that time, so the hammer will be an afterthought.
