We’re still solidly in the lull between the New York Giants off-season program and the opening of training camp at the end of July.
But there still seems to be an energy in the air, even as the dog days of summer drag on. Training camp, and with it real football and real football news, is getting closer by the minute. That will be when we first start to see the fruits of the Giants’ off-season and just how big a difference the roster churn and new coaching staff will make.

New head coach John Harbaugh has stated that the goal is to win games and make the playoffs. That is, of course, easier said than done, but the surest way for the Giants to make the playoffs is to win the NFC East. Making the playoffs as a wildcard is certainly possible for the Giants, however it might actually be harder (and certainly more complicated) than winning the division outright.
After all, while each of the Eagles, Cowboys, and Commanders have the potential to be formidable, they each have flaws that could result in down years or late-season collapses. The NFC North and NFC West divisions, meanwhile, each have the potential to produce multiple wildcard teams with double-digit win totals. It’s entirely possible that the winner of the NFC East could host a wildcard team with a better record.
