The Heat need to monitor their point guard depth, Ira Winderman of the South Florida Sun Sentinel opines in his latest mailbag. While Davion Mitchell is deserving of the starting job, there are legitimate questions regarding projected backup Dru Smith and two-way player Tre Donaldson on a team seeking to be a contender. Miami should be looking for an alternative if the front office and coaching staff have lingering concerns about their point guards in the preseason or prior to the trade deadline.

• Even with the addition of Giannis Antetokounmpo, are the Heat doomed to wind up in the play-in tournament again? Winderman notes that FanDuel projects Miami and Toronto to be tied for sixth in the East with 45 1/2 wins. Only six teams in each conference get an automatic berth into the first round. Winderman takes a quick look at the projected top 10 teams in the East.
• ESPN’s Zach Kram gives the Hawks an A- grade for their offseason roster moves, raising their floor by strongly upgrading their bench. They added Luguentz Dort, Aaron Wiggins, Devin Carter and Ryan Nembhard in trades and Kingston Flemings via the lottery. The biggest question in the minds of the ESPN Insiders is whether Jalen Johnson, now the franchise’s star, can lead them to a playoff series victory.
• The Magic have named DAZN as their exclusive direct-to-consumer streaming partner for the upcoming season, according to a team press release. All Magic regular-season games, excluding nationally televised contests, will stream on DAZN in the Magic’s local territory. Earlier this month, the Magic named WRDQ TV 27 and WFTV Channel 9 as the team’s over-the-air broadcast partner.
