D’Andre Swift is in the final year of the three-year, $24 million contract he signed with the Chicago Bears in 2024, and before last season, no one would have predicted he’d still be in Chicago. Most of the guaranteed money was paid out over the first two years, and it was just always assumed they’d cut him loose before this season. But he really took to Ben Johnson’s offense last year, and cutting him was never an option.

He did so well in 2025 that last week general manager Ryan Poles was asked about a possible contract extension for the 27-year-old Swift.
“Yeah, it’s definitely something we need to look at, and we will look at,” Poles said. “I think he’s done a great job. I love his approach this offseason. He looks amazing, and it’s his second year in the system, too. I think the combination of having EB [last year’s running backs coach Eric Bieniemy] and [this year’s RB coach Eric] Studsville has been awesome for him. So I like where he’s at right now.”
In 2026, Swift’s cap hit is about $8.8M, which places him 12th among running backs, and his $8M per year average is tied for 19th. I think a two-year extension in the same ballpark is a possibility, but they may wait a while to see how this season goes to ensure it makes sense in the big picture.
“This is where this job gets tough, is really trying to figure out how you want to allocate everything, not only for now, but into the future,” Poles continued. “So we’ll have those conversations and see where we want to go with it. But I love Swift, and I love the way that he’s working.”
