It turns out the Seattle Seahawks secondary is even more banged up than first realized.
After a weekend in which the team lost rookie safety Bud Clark to a broken ankle, it’s also been revealed that another safety is currently out of commission, albeit on a shorter timeline. ESPN’s Brady Henderson reported on Sunday night that Rodney Thomas II, brought in as a free agent signing from the Indianapolis Colts, recently underwent surgery for a fractured hand.
“Yeah, he has a hand [injury], and we’ll see if and when he’s coming back on time,” Seahawks head coach Mike Macdonald said after Sunday’s loss to the Tennessee Titans.

Without Clark and Thomas, the Seahawks relied heavily on a three-safety rotation of A.J. Finley, D’Anthony Bell, and Maxen Hook to get through Week 2 of preseason.
If Thomas is back for Friday’s preseason finale versus the Kansas City Chiefs, he at least provides some depth for the game and he’ll still need to make his case for the 53-man roster.
Seattle’s safety position is a bit wobbly with injuries to Nick Emmanwori (who’s off the PUP list following ankle surgery but still uncertain for Week 1), Clark, and Thomas. The only one we won’t be seeing any time soon is Clark.
