One of the Rochester region’s largest school bus companies is set to lay off more than half its workers.
A Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification (WARN) notice filed with the New York State Department of Labor shows Monroe School Transportation Inc. is planning to eliminate 180 jobs.
That’s about 55% of their 328 total staff members working in Rochester.
In the past, the bus company has provided transportation services to the Rochester City School District.
There’s no word if this is related to the district’s nearly $24 million budget deficit.
Spectrum News 1 has reached out to the bus company for comment.
