One of the Toronto Raptors‘ key bench pieces has been rewarded for a solid start to his NBA career.
Point guard Jamal Shead has agreed to a three-year, $24 million extension, keeping him under contract through the 2029-30 season, ESPN’s Shams Charania reported Thursday.
He suited up for all 82 games last year, starting 12, averaging 6.6 points, 1.7 rebounds, 5.4 assists and 0.9 steals while shooting 36.7 per cent from the field and 32.1 per cent from three-point range.
Shead also played in all seven of the Raptors’ playoff games in the first round against the Cavaliers and started four in place of Immanuel Quickley, who missed the series with an injury.
In his games off the bench during the regular season, Shead compiled 354 assists — the most of any bench player in the NBA last year and the most of any substitute in Raptors history.
The 24-year-old is heading into his third season in the league after being drafted 45th overall in 2024.
