Any speculation about Donovan Mitchell‘s name in trade conversations can be put to rest for the foreseeable future.
According to Charania, the deal includes a player option in the fourth and final year and a full trade kicker.
Mitchell was entering what could have been the final year of his contract in the 2026-27 season, as he had a $53-million player option for the 2027-28 season, meaning he could’ve tested free agency next summer.
The seven-time all-star has enjoyed a productive run since being acquired by Cleveland in a trade with the Utah Jazz ahead of the 2022-23 season. He averaged 27.9 points, 4.5 rebounds and 5.7 assists while shooting 48.3 per cent from the field last season.
One of the top playoff scorers in recent years — having never missed the post-season — Mitchell enjoyed a career-best finish last year, advancing to the Eastern Conference Finals, where the Cavaliers were swept by the eventual champion New York Knicks.
Drafted 13th overall by the Nuggets in 2017 and traded to the Jazz on draft night, Mitchell has averaged 25.1 points, 4.3 rebounds and 4.8 assists over his 609 career games.
