The Baltimore Ravens signed Austin Reed to their practice squad on Monday, adding some much-needed quarterback depth after injuries to starter Lamar Jackson and backup Tyler Huntley.
Undrafted rookie Joe Fagnano is set for his first career start in Week 9, but he will need a backup who knows Declan Doyle’s offense. Enter Reed, who not only spent part of training camp in Baltimore this past summer, but worked with Doyle in Chicago last year as well. He appeared in all three of the Ravens’ 2026 preseason games and completed six of his 12 passes for 59 yards, one touchdown, and one interception with 11 yards and a touchdown on the ground.

Fagnano took several hits against the Buffalo Bills on Sunday and was listed as a limited participant in Monday’s walkthrough with an ankle injury. The Ravens’ offensive line has already let two quarterbacks get knocked out of the game, so Reed needs to take all of the reps he can get in case he is needed on Thursday night.
The Ravens are still evaluating Huntley’s toe injury – reportedly a case of turf toe – and will likely wait for an update on his status before making another quarterback move. Fagnano and Reed will have to get through at least one game, but a swift return from Huntley could keep Baltimore moving forward without other additions at the position. A longer absence will put Eric DeCosta in a tough spot: sacrifice future draft capital to salvage what might be a lost season or cobble together a quarterback room from street free agents and/or practice squads around the league?
