The Baltimore Ravens will not have Tyler Loop for their Thursday night matchup against the Jacksonville Jaguars and potentially much longer.
Head coach Jesse Minter said on Monday that the second-year kicker could be placed on injured reserve with an issue he described as “something small that kind of became a little bit more.” Jake Moody, who was re-signed to the practice squad two weeks ago, will take over kicking duties in the interim.

The Ravens’ first injury report of Week 9 revealed that Loop is specifically dealing with a groin injury. But even if he was healthy, he may not have been starting on Thursday night. The 2025 sixth-round pick has faced multiple waves of scrutiny since arriving in Baltimore as the handpicked successor to Justin Tucker, the latest coming after two missed kicks in the last three games. He shanked a 34-yard field goal on Sunday against the Buffalo Bills, just two weeks after a crucial miss from 49 yards in a 13-10 loss to the Cleveland Browns.
Minter’s comments indicate that Loop’s groin had been bothering him for some time but recently worsened to the point that a stint on IR might be necessary. That would sideline the 26-year-old until after the Ravens’ Week 13 bye. Moody would have an opportunity to seize the kicking job for the rest of the season and maybe longer.
Originally a 49ers third-round pick in 2023, Moody put forth a solid rookie campaign with an 84.0% field goal conversion rate that plummeted to 70.6% the following year. He entered 2025 on an extremely short leash and was waived by San Francisco after going one for three inside of 40 yards (one miss, one block) in Week 1. But across two games with the Bears and six with the Commanders, Moody converted 18 of his 20 field goals – including both of his attempts from 50-plus yards – and 13 of his 14 extra points.
