POCAHONTAS, Ark. (KAIT) – The city of Pocahontas is getting $1.26 million from the Arkansas Economic Development Commission.
Mayor Keith Futrell says the city has 53 acres of undeveloped land, and this money will go toward infrastructure, including a water and sewer system.
“And that’ll add two pump stations and this long Highway 304, which is going to stretch from Pocahontas to the future I-57 interchange. And it’s going to be a very great location for the next industry to move into,” Futrell said.
Futrell says 90% of that money covers what they expect to spend for phase one. The goal is to prep the land so it’s ready when new businesses come looking for a place to build.
“That way, more industry will be interested in coming to our area when you’ve already got a water and a sewer system to the main part of the property,” Futrell said.
