Pistons fans who responded to a survey conducted by The Athletic’s Hunter Patterson believe president of basketball operations Trajan Langdon didn’t do enough this offseason to make the team a title contender.

Of the 1,279 responses made, 60.3% chose ‘No, they should have done more’ regarding offseason moves. Only 20.3% selected ‘Yes, they’ve improved enough’ while the remaining 19.4% were indifferent.

News flash to restricted free agent Jalen Duren: Ausar Thompson received 67.6% of the votes for second-most valuable player besides Cade Cunningham. Duran garnered 27.9% of those votes.

In terms of a reasonable salary for Duren, the fans were divided, as 40.3% believes his should receive in the $30-35MM annual range, while 40% believe he should get $35-40MM. Only 5.8% percent believe he’s worth more than that.

• In an interview with Coty M. Davis of the Detroit News (subscription required), Langdon believes free agent acquisition John Collins will impact the team’s perimeter shooting and spacing. “One of the things we were looking for was to put more shooting on the floor at different positions, and he was one of those solutions,” Langdon said. “Over the last few seasons, he shot it really well, especially last season. I think he’ll help the spacing for our guys, giving them more room to operate. He is versatile. He can play some four and some five — obviously a lob threat, a good rebounder, or a good interior scorer on switches. He brings another versatile piece to our team.”
• In the same story, Langdon said the team’s loss to Cleveland in the conference semifinals has provided plenty of motivation for the holdovers. “I think I said in my end-of-season presser that it was going to hurt for a bit. That pain should drive and motivate. You should be excited to put the work in and come back a better version of yourself.,” he said. “We have seen that from our players. Daniss Jenkins has been in the gym. Tolu (Smith) has been in the gym. Paul (Reed) has been in the gym. Ron (Holland II) has definitely been in the gym here in Detroit. He’s found places to play even when he went back home (Dallas). All of our young guys are coming back as better versions of themselves. We’re excited and looking forward to their next step in their development.”
• Along with the addition of Collins, trades that netted Isaiah Joe, Taurean Prince and Gary Harris – along with the first-round selection of Ebuka Okorie — could make an offense that finished top-10 a year ago even better, Davis opines. Davis notes that the Pistons finished with a 118.3 offensive rating despite taking just 31.3% of their shots from deep during the regular season, the second fewest in the league. Davis also points out that they scored 10.2 more points per 100 possessions during the regular season with their top perimeter shooter, Duncan Robinson, on the floor. With additional 3-point threats, the team should theoretically be even more dangerous offensively.
