Kansas City Chiefs QB Patrick Mahomes completed 15 of 27 passes for 184 yards, two touchdowns, and one interception in a Week 1 win over the Denver Broncos. Mahomes also ran for 23 yards and a score.
Why It Matters: Back in action 10 months after tearing his ACL, Mahomes showed early on that he wasn’t going to be confined to the pocket, running for a 15-yard touchdown to open the scoring. His accuracy and decision making were more reflective of the lengthy layoff, though, as most of his passing yards came on quick hitters that turned into longer gains, and his interception was as bad as you’ll see. Still, accounting for three total touchdowns against a defense of Denver’s caliber has to be considered a win for Mahomes. We’ll see how he progresses in Week 2 versus the Colts in terms of continuing to shake off the rust. He’s a fringy QB1 for the time being, but the team’s potent running game should be a long-term boon for the former MVP.
