All-Star guard Anthony Edwards can become eligible for a super-max extension if he makes an All-NBA team in 2027, so he’s not expected to seriously consider signing a new contract until next offseason, but he’s happy about how the Timberwolves’ summer has played out, ESPN’s Brian Windhorst said on a recent episode of the Hoop Collective podcast (YouTube link).

“Ant, from what I am told, is very pleased by the Wolves’ offseason,” Windhorst said. “Going to get LaMelo (Ball), making this deal happen for (Jonathan) Kuminga,”

As Windhorst notes, Edwards’ enthusiasm about Minnesota’s offseason moves could’ve led to an extension agreement this summer if he had become super-max eligible already. He would have met the performance criteria for a “designated veteran extension” if he had earned an All-NBA spot in 2025/26, but he missed out after falling just short of the 65-game minimum required to qualify for end-of-season awards. That means the two sides likely decided to table those discussions until next summer.

“The time where Ant has to feel really good about the Wolves is a year from now,” Windhorst said.
