Noah Penda is expected to miss “significant time” after suffering a partially torn right hamstring during the Magic’s preseason finale against Miami on Friday, sources tell Jason Beede of The Orlando Sentinel (Twitter link). No recovery timetable has been set, and Penda’s return will depend on his response to treatment.
The 21-year-old small forward also dealt with a hamstring injury in training camp, but it had fully healed, Beede adds (Twitter link). It was in the right leg as well, but it affected a different part of the hamstring.
Penda appeared in 59 games as a rookie, averaging 3.8 points, 3.2 rebounds and 1.2 assists in 12.8 minutes per night with .404/.323/.688 shooting numbers. He was selected with the 32nd pick in the 2025 draft and is making $2.15MM this season.
Beede also hears that the Magic are evaluating the condition of Franz Wagner, who left Friday’s game midway through the third quarter due to soreness in his right shoulder (Twitter link). Injuries limited the 25-year-old small forward to a career-low 34 games last season.
Second-year guard Jase Richardson, who tweaked his back during the game, is considered day-to-day with low back soreness, according to Beede.
There’s no indication yet on the status of Wagner or Richardson for the season opener Wednesday night against Atlanta.
